A Trip to Venus A Novel eBook John Munro Reviews
Good read................. ............... .... ....... ........ .......... ......... ......... ......... ......... ..... ..... ..... . . . . .. . . .
this is a stunner for the time it was written, the eloquent language and surprising science knowledge for the time makes this book a great little gem
Difficult read author preoccupied with rambling detail on side tangents not relative to narrative. May be a classic but is definitely not an enjoyable read.
I bought a bunch of books to use on my android phone and have not read them all yet, but I only bought ones I am sure I will love. Thanks!
I loved reading A Trip to Venus. The author made the story come to life and I sincerely wish Mr. Munro was with us today to write more! His imagination of space travel and other planets and people was great!
This book is entertaining, and funny from the perspective of our modern knowledge of astronomy. Fine light reading and interesting to see early ideas of what the author thought Venus might be like.
For those who can bear with the glacial, gabby pacing of gaslight SF, this book is a nostalgic treasure trove of the era's speculation on the nature of the planets, and the possibility- then, so seemingly remote- of someday learning what is out there. Once clear of the garrulous terrestrial preamble, the sense of wonder is contagious, regardless of what we now know to be true.
I read this on a whim. While it is well written...as far as language goes, the author tries too hard at sounding like a man of learning and gives long, empty descriptions that in the end leave you knowing very little about what he just took three pages to describe.
It is interesting to read about how space and the other planets were viewed in those days and makes me realize how little we still really know, and like the scientists in this book, many of today's scientists still pretend to know more tan they actually do or can.
I did enjoy the planet Venus as portrayed here. The culture and wisdom of it's people, while simple by our standards is beautiful and quite wonderful.
The ending kind of left me hanging though...was there a sequel?
